We met with Erik Persoon from Forever Plants to discuss the exciting developments in geothermal energy within horticulture. Our conversation highlighted their significant progress in sustainability: a 35% reduction in energy consumption over the past two decades, and nowadays 53% sourced from geothermal power. Additionally, CO2 emissions have plummeted by 70% since 2000.
Forever Plants’ initiative exemplifies the industry’s commitment to sustainability, providing a model for greenhouse farming’s transition to greener practices. Moreover, the project’s community impact, supplying warmth to residential areas, underscores the interconnectedness of sustainability and community development.
